Their handling can easily be controlled to help ease beginners into the game's fast pace. Assault Rifles are best used when engaging enemies in mid range. They are the ideal weapon for beginners who are are still learning effective combat distances as they can also somewhat be used in close and long range shootouts.
SMGs are one of the go-to weapons when fighting in tight and enclosed spaces. They make up for their relatively low range with a high fire rate in order to quickly take out tangos when they get too close! Shotguns are handy in close combat situations.
Despite having a low fire rate, they make up for it in sheer power. Their shots travel in a spread, guaranteeing that most if not all shots land on an enemy for huge amounts of damage! LMGs are great for long sustained fire, allowing you to suppress enemies from firing back.

Thanks to their large magazine size, you can keep you finger on the trigger for a long time! Due to the sheer firepower of this weapon, its accuracy may suffer when shooting for prolonged amounts of time. Some LMGs have high recoil, which means that it may require a good bit of handling to keep your mark on targets!
Marksman Rifles have a lower fire rate due to their semi-automatic or burst fire modes. However, these weapons are as deadly as any other since the lower rate of fire lets players connect their shots due to lower recoil!
Sniper Rifles are scoped weapons which allow you to scout out further distances. Despite being able to deal damage at range, their scoped nature does not make them ideal in close quarter engagements. Sniper Rifles can deal devastating damage in one-shot.
However, you will need to make your shots count as their rate of fire is low.States are categorized from highest rate to lowest rate. I know the stats are above but this is my guy instinct about how the guns feel and play. M16 : No longer a one burst kill unless its head and chest. You can however add rapid fire to them for quicker bursts. Solid from distance and good silenced. It feels like an elongated UMP. Scar : downgraded a little.
Still level and accurate but silenced it is left wanting.
CM : Decent with a little more recoil than the others. ACR not a lazer beam anymore but powerful and accurate. Great silenced weapon. AK47 : recoil often proves hard to see past and like in past game the red dot doesnt work as it bounces around too much. Could be effective in the right hands. MP5 : Pretty fast and accurate. Versatile too.
UMP : Still good, accurate and balanced, but does lose damage at a distance compared with the last ump. PP90M1 : A solid fast very steady gun. Not powerful but drops v quick and with extended mags and or rapid fire its unstoppable.

If you end up running around with the wrong weapon then even the fastest reflexes won't guarantee you a win - that's why you'll want to know exactly what to use in each class. You can expect everyone else to have this knowledge as well, so don't put yourself at a disadvantage without knowing the best weapons in Modern Warfare ahead of time.
If you're looking for more info about weapons, we have a list of the best Warzone loadoutsas well as how Modern Warfare Blueprints work. With Season 2 now upon us, things have changed a bit from launch. Where long sight-lines and a sharp eye used to be the key to victory, the new maps and some balance changes mean that you're more likely to need fast reflexes and a weapon to match. One thing that hasn't changed is the sheer brilliance of the M4A1which remains one of the easiest to use and most reliable weapons in Modern Warfare Season 2.
It's usually best to pair this with an SMG or Shotgun if you plan to be running around a lot. You can still find some good sight-lines if you prefer to play as a sniper, but it's a little trickier than it used to be. More often than not you'll be finding yourself on the receiving end of the M4A1, which is why you'll want to be using it yourself. Not only is it easy to get your hands on, but it's also viable no matter what rank you are.
To give you a little more detail though, we've included a pick from each of the primary weapon categories, so you can find something that fits you and your style of play. That means if you want to play a sniper, you can, and if you prefer to cuddle people with shotguns, then we can help you out there too. Even in this second Season, the M4A1 remains a truly monstrous weapon, so make sure you pair it with a different primary weapon using the Overkill perk you unlock at level 8, as this allows you to use two primary weapons.
Before we get into the best of each class, let's look at the most recent new additions with the arrival of Season 3 first:. The SKS is an impressively speedy marksman rifle and a monster in the right hands. It boasts a surprisingly high rate of fire, has good stopping power if you can always land your shots on the head, and even offers great mobility too.
That being said, if you're after something a little nippier, than the SKS may well be perfect for you. How to unlock the Renetti: Reach tier 15 of the Season 3 battle pass. Pistols are an odd one in Modern Warfare due to the ability to ignore them in favour of carrying two primary weapons.A stat I will quickly mention is the reload time.
All weapons have different reload times depending on how much ammo is in the gun. Some weapons must reload one round at a time. Other weapons take longer to reload if you fully emptied the magazine instead of leaving one round in the chamber.
You also have to add time for the gun being raised up to aim after the reload. While reload time can affect your combat, it is the easiest to counterbalance with minor adjustments to gameplay style. However, the other stats will be the shaping force for your play style and must be taken into account. You can't kill people if your gun doesn't do any damage!
One thing to take into account when choosing the right gun is the amount of damage is does. This stat is fairly straight-forward.
The more damage your gun does, the more each bullet hurts the other guy. However, the more damage your gun does, the slower rate of fire it is likely to have. As a general rule, Shotguns and Sniper Rifles will have the highest amounts of damage. I try to list the damage values for each bullet on each gun.
I tested every weapon myself and estimated the damage values in comparison to past games. If an enemy is behind cover, you must depend on your penetration power to kill them. Each weapon category usually has the same amount of penetration power.
It's not always the gun that you must take into account when firing through surfaces. There are many different surfaces in a Call of Duty game, but there are usually only three variations in thickness.
The thinnest surfaces are things like glass, plywood, and sheet metal. All weapons can penetrate through those surfaces. The surfaces that have medium thickness are usually walls in houses. The thickest surfaces are stone or concrete. Even then, handguns and shotguns cannot penetrate through concrete. Through my research I would say that each thickness of surfaces takes away a third of bullet power.
Your gun may have killed someone quickly at point blank range, but it took longer down range. The range stat may be the most overlooked stat in the game. Each gun -- with the exception of Sniper Rifles -- have certain power at certain distances.
The further away you are from the target, the weaker your gun is. This is why you may notice two damage stats in each weapon's page.
So you have a lot of power in your gun, but you can't hit anything with all that recoil! Accuracy is an important thing to take into account when choosing the right gun. Some guns have high power to kill, yet low accuracy to actually hit.
